3 of the most picturesque UK destinations for your 2021 staycation

We know what you’re thinking… isn’t it a little early to be thinking about this year’s holidays? Well normally it would be, but the ongoing nature of the pandemic means that it’s likely everyone’s holidays will be a little different this year (hopefully for the last time). So while hopping on a plane to more exotic climes may previously have been your first instinct, it can be easy to forget that there’s plenty of beauty for you to discover right here in Britain!

That’s where we can help here at Intack Self Drive. Not every family car is equipped for being fully loaded with all the family, especially if you’re planning on doing some adventuring along the way. Golf clubs, fishing equipment and mountain bikes can all take up their fair share of space, which might mean you need something a little hardier or more spacious for the job.

Our six-seater Kombi vans are just one of our many types of vans which excel in that regard, and if you’re planning on holidaying in particularly large groups, it’s worth taking a quick look at our minibuses for hire - encompassing six-seater, nine-seater, twelve-seater and even seventeen-seater people movers!

And if you’ve not settled on exactly where you’re going yet, we’ve got one or two suggestions for you…

The Lake District

If you ask any Brit to list their ideal UK holiday destinations, there’s a good chance that the Lake District will always be somewhere in the the top five. In fact, Lake District destinations are some of the most popular breaks in the UK, and it’s no wonder why. It’s an area of the country that’s renowned for the scale of its natural beauty, much of it rooted in the sixteen glittering lakes from which it takes its name. Its walking routes are especially popular with ramblers, but there are plenty of leisurely routes you can take too - great for families looking for a taste of the great outdoors. Plus, there’s plenty to do in the area’s many quaint lakeside communities, like those of Keswick and Windermere.

It’s an area steeped in history too, with plenty of historical sites, houses, gardens and walks to explore, many documented by Blackburn Author Alfred Wainwright - whom you may have heard of if you’re Blackburn locals like us! Amongst these historical sites are some seriously impressive Roman remains - geographical testaments to when the area was ruled by one of the most powerful military forces in the world.

The Peak District

In almost any discussion where the Lake District is mentioned, you can bet that the Peak District will never be too far behind. The Peak District is located centrally in England, and covers more than 550 square miles. If you’re the outdoorsy type, there’s plenty of rugged landscapes for you to tackle, but if you want to take things a little more slowly then there’s no shortage of reservoirs, viaducts, wildlife and habitats you can marvel at without necessitating anything too strenuous!

The White Peak is a particularly popular spot with tourists, distinguished by its sprawling meadows, pastures, and drystone walls. If there are any keen photographers in your family, rest assured that almost every inch of the Peak District is picture-perfect!

The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales have long been established as one of the UK’s premier beauty destinations, so we’d be remiss not to mention them! Plus, if you live not far away from our depot in Blackburn, then they’re only a few hours’ drive away - bordering on the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Yorkshire Dales is famed for its outstanding scenery, studded with awe-inspiring castles, abbeys and ruins. It’s been described as a ‘place of many moods’ and it certainly lives up to that reputation, its landscape etched with dry stone walls and silent old barns, and windswept hills bristling with heather.

If you’re in the mood, you can take a stroll in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There’s a rich culture to the area too, so if your tastes lean towards the gastronomical side, you can enjoy some Wensleydale Cheese for example, or go on a sampling tour in one of the region’s famous breweries.

Those are just a few of our ideas, of course - you may well have your own destinations in mind! Wherever you’re planning on going though, you can count on us to help you get there. We have a fantastic selection of vehicles available here at Intack Self Drive, ranging from car hire to vans for hire and minibuses for hire. And if you find there’s still some wiggle room left in your staycation plans, you might want to take a look at our flexi car hire options, designed to give you the best prices on longer term hire periods.
