An overview of our specialist fleet for medical transport

We have more than 50 years of experience to our name here at Intack Self Drive, we know how critical the right transport can be in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable medical care – whether it’s a high-priority emergency or a non-emergency patient transfer.

That’s why we’ve developed our very own medical transport fleet, tailored to the specific requirements of medical professionals across the UK. From high-dependency units and rapid response vehicles to secure transport solutions, each vehicle is fully equipped to meet the highest standards of comfort, safety and operational efficiency. So, if you’re not yet familiar with the characteristics and capabilities of our medical fleet, here’s a quick overview to get you acquainted!

High Dependency Units – HDUs

Our High Dependency Units are essentially fully equipped, blue light ambulances; ones that meet the same operational standards and clinical capabilities as traditional emergency vehicles. That makes them a useful option for transporting critically ill or injured patients.

We offer the Renault Master HDU, an exceptionally versatile and reliable platform to support high-dependency medical care. The vehicle features a spacious driver’s cab for long shifts, with an all-around CCTV system for enhanced safety and situational awareness. There are also a variety of well-placed cabinetry units inside, enabling quick access to essential equipment and supplies.

The vehicle also features a manual rear access ramp and a user-friendly rear control panel, making it even easier to load and unload patients, as well as enabling medical staff to manage onboard systems efficiently. Side access stowage units provide additional storage.

Our HDUs are available for long- or short-term hire – or even outright purchase.

Patient Transport Service – PTS

Some journeys to or from a hospital don’t require emergency intervention – and that’s where our Patient Transport Service vans come in. PTS vans provide a safe, comfortable and reliable means of transport for people who are medically stable but still require support during travel.

Our PTS vans are built with patient dignity and safety in mind. Standard features include a three-point seatbelt system for rear passengers, wheelchair and stretcher access supported by a manual ramp and winch system, and a transfer chair stowed conveniently on the rear doors. The spacious driver’s cab maximises comfort for the medical team on longer journeys, and the ride remains smooth and secure for passengers throughout.

Security and visibility are both maintained to a high standard – each PTS van includes all-round CCTV and reflective Battenberg pattern for maximum visibility in traffic. As well as offering long-term arrangements here at Intack Self Drive, we also provide flexible short-term hire to meet the specific needs of your organisation – supporting the delivery of professional care throughout.

Rapid Response Vehicle – RRV

Speed plays an essential role in emergency care, and that’s where our Rapid Response Vehicles play such a valuable role. Primarily designed to reach patients quickly, these compact units are available in both 4x4 and two-wheel drive configurations – making them suitable for varied terrain and urban areas alike.

Each vehicle in this category is fitted with blue lights and sirens. They’re typically used by solo clinicians or a small medical team. RRVs don’t transport patients, but they carry essential tools such as defibrillators, trauma kits, oxygen supplies and emergency medications, all of which enable staff to begin stabilisation efforts before the ambulance arrives.

RRVs are highly effective in busy areas or narrow streets, enabling medical staff to begin urgent care immediately. At Intack Medical Support, we understand the role these vehicles play in helping providers respond swiftly and safely. That’s why our fleet includes a broad range of RRVs built to meet the demands of specific environments.

Secure Transport Vehicle hire

Our Secure Transport Vehicle hire options are mainly designed to provide a safe, secure environment to patients who may be considered a danger to themselves (or possibly even others) – such as someone suffering an acute mental health episode, or violent reaction to a foreign substance.

These Renault Master-based vans are constructed to support safe conditions for people and peace of mind for the crew. The transport section includes reinforced structures and controlled access points, which reduce risk and prevent unauthorised entry. A comprehensive CCTV system covers both the interior and exterior, so that staff can constantly monitor the status of the patient. What’s more, the crew can stay comfortable on longer operational shifts with a spacious cab layout.

These vans are a trusted choice for healthcare providers that need to ensure secure transfers. Whether you're arranging a short-term contract or developing a longer-term transport solution, we offer flexible hire terms to suit you.

That’s all the basics covered! And if you ever have any more specific questions about our medical fleet, or need more information on our daily hire or flexi-hire options, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team. Just give us a call at 0125457811, and we’ll be happy to help in any way we can.
