5 key characteristics your salespeople’s cars need to have

It’s a universal truth that all travelling salespeople tend to have very specific set of basic requirements for their cars. So whatever industry you’re in, the chances are that the same is true for yours! Whether you’re planning on buying new cars for your sales teams, or you’re just narrowing down your choices between our available flexi hire vehicles here at Intack Self Drive, it’s worth bearing that set of key requirements in mind, so that you can be sure your sales team will be able to do their jobs comfortably, efficiently, and effectively. We’ve outlined some of the most important requirements below!

1. Reliability

This is an all-important one, and let’s be honest, probably somewhat obvious. After all, it’s a top priority for pretty much every driver, so why wouldn’t the same be true for your sales team, too. Unreliable cars can be particularly annoying and expensive from a business perspective, since you’re losing money for every minute that your employee is stood out on the side of the road with a broken down car.

But you’ll be glad to hear that this is something we’re all too aware of here at Intack Self Drive, which is why we maintain strict maintenance schedules for all the vehicles we offer, all included as part of the hire agreement. That way, you can always have complete peace of mind in the reliability of your fleet while out on the road.

2. Fuel efficiency

Whenever you’re sizing up a car to be in almost constant use, running costs will be one of the foremost things on your mind. Now, all of the vehicles we offer here at Intack are highly economical as a general rule, but some are better suited to certain environments than others. In other words, fuel efficiency often has a lot to do with where the car is being driven, so the best one for you might well depend on where your company and clients are based.

If you’re in a major city like Manchester, for example, and your team will be driving relatively short distances to locations around the city centre, then you may well find that a city car suits you well. If you’re based in a more rural location on the other hand (we’re not too far away from the Ribble Valley ourselves here at Intack), or your clients are further afield in other parts of the country, then you might find that a car with a bigger engine provides a better fuel economy on these longer drives. Here on our site, you’ll have plenty of choice between both!

3. Connectivity

You might regard this as a slightly more optional quality than reliability and fuel efficiency, depending on how far your salespeople are going, and how long you expect them to be gone for. But if they’ll be spending the majority of time out on the roads, they’ll need to be able to adapt their schedules on the fly, which means they’ll work best when equipped with proper in-car connectivity in their vehicle, such as Bluetooth connectivity. They’ll need to be able to co-ordinate with colleagues to ensure that they’re properly up to speed with all the vital information they’ll need for each meeting, and once each one wraps up, they’ll probably find it useful to be able to fill you in on how it went! Happily, you’ve got no

4. Comfort

This is a fairly straightforward one. If your salespeople are going to be spending a fair amount of their working day in that driving seat, they’ll want to be comfortable. Simple as that! Unlike the other qualities, this isn’t necessarily always something that you’ll be able to decide on their behalf, so you’ll probably need to consult with them directly on what they find most comfortable to drive, whether you’re planning on buying a car or simply hiring one.

5. The ‘wow factor’

Now, what they call the wow factor is by far the most subjective quality on this list, and you’ll need to make a personal decision about how important it is to you. In other words, you’ll need to ask yourself the question: “how much does it matter whether a client finds this car impressive?”

The answer to that is probably going to depend in large part on your industry. High-powered executives from large corporations working in in fields like finance or property are more likely to expect their salespeople to arrive in luxurious vehicles, whereas it may matter significantly less to those in other fields, especially owners of SMEs. When it comes right down to it, you know your clients best - so we’ll leave that decision to you!
